Joel immediately checks the health of the queen when the shipment arrives from Georgia and in the wintered over hives. Checking to make certain the queens are laying eggs, and making sure the hives are supplied with sugar water, Joel will often leave the queen alone for a couple of weeks before marking them. When we started beekeeping, I was amazed to learn that not only do beekeepers mark their queens but each year there is a universal color used by beekeepers. This year is yellow, fitting don't you think?? Stayed tuned, we will be including a couple of interesting videos shortly!
